Another Day, Another Boba: Why I Love Toast La Tea in Portland
Okay, so maybe boba isn’t the healthiest drink if you’re drinking it every day of the week, but that’s not the point here. The point of today’s little story is to share with you one of my absolute favorite boba spots in Portland—Toast La Tea. If you’re a boba lover (or even if you’re new to it), this place is definitely worth checking out.
What Exactly is Boba?
For those who might not know, boba tea is a drink that can be a tea, smoothie, fruit tea, or whatever you can imagine, and it’s filled with these chewy pearls—known as “boba.” The pearls are made from tapioca, and they’re usually soaked in brown sugar syrup to make them sweet and give them that signature dark color, here is more about boba. I get it if it’s weird the first time you try it, but trust me it’ll grow on you. It’s just such a fun drink to have.
Why I Love Toast La Tea
Now, back to Toast La Tea. I’ve been to my fair share of boba spots, but this place just hits different. It’s a tiny shop, but it’s got this cozy, welcoming vibe that makes it the perfect spot to chill. Whether you’re there to study or hang out with a group of friends, it’s the ideal place. The shop has this cool wooden aesthetic—everything from the tables to the shelves is made of wood, and it just makes the whole place feel super comfy.
I’ve talked to the owner and the staff so many times, and at this point, it really feels like a second home. Everyone is so friendly.
My Favorite Drink
When it comes to drinks, I’ve got a favorite I always go for: the Fruit Smoothie with Strawberry and Mango, topped with boba. It’s refreshing, a little sweet, and the boba gives it the perfect chewy texture. Every time I go, I get this—it’s just a solid choice.
How to Order
Ordering is pretty straightforward. You walk in, go the counter, and pick what you want from the menu. Some drinks have pretty unique names, but each one has a letter and number code next to it. Just tell the staff the code, and they’ll know exactly what you mean. Super simple and quick.
A Quick Peek at the Menu
Aside from the boba drinks, Toast La Tea also has a small menu with some light bites and snacks. If you’re looking for something to go with your drink, they’ve got options. They also serve a pretty strong Vietnamese coffee.
